Treat the frame as an object with weight

A frame on a sideboard is not exempt from the need for secure support. Use its intended stand or a suitable display support, and place it on a stable surface where it cannot easily be knocked. A large heavy frame simply leaned against a wall can slide or fall; choose another authorised display method for that kind of piece.

Small frames are easier to accommodate on a low, wide surface, but size alone does not guarantee stability. Check the back, stand and glazing. Do not use a damaged folding leg or prop a frame on a pile of loose magazines. Keep the arrangement away from the edge and from places where children or pets could pull it down.

Consider what happens when the furniture is used. Opening a drawer, dropping keys or plugging in a lamp can disturb objects above. If the picture repeatedly needs rescuing during an ordinary action, it belongs somewhere else. Decorative restraint is more useful here than another accessory to hold it in place.

Leave a clear working patch on the surface. A pair of modest frames can have more presence when surrounded by space than a crowded collection leaning at several angles. The arrangement should not prevent the sideboard or table doing the job you bought it for.

Check the reflection in the glazing from the doorway and the nearest chair. A lamp or window can obscure the picture at the angle you use most often. Reposition the small display safely rather than tilting it beyond the support's intended range.

If you want to change pictures regularly, choose a frame that can be opened and reassembled without straining fragile tabs or loose backing. Keep spare prints flat and protected elsewhere. This lets the artwork change while the physical display remains dependable.

Where a wall-mounted arrangement is preferable, discuss permission and choose appropriate fixings for the item and wall. Avoid calling a floor or tabletop display a universal rental solution. It works when the scale, support and location are right; otherwise a smaller piece, a different surface or no display at that spot is a better decision.
